प्रारम्भ में भारतवर्ष के वर्णन में कुल सात पर्वतों, एक सौ बाईस नदियों, उत्तर भारत के एक सौ पैंतीस तथा दक्षिण भारत के इक्यावन जनपदों और मलेच्छ राजाओं का भी इसमें वर्णन है। इसी सन्दर्भ में बीस बलिष्ठ धर्म की वष्द्धि होती है। मनुष्य ज्ञानी होकर इस संसार में पुर्नजन्म नहीं लेता। पद्मपुराण कथा करने एवं सुनने से प्रेत तत्व भी शान्त हो जाता है। यज्ञ दान तपस्या और तीर्थों में स्नान करने से जो फल मिलता है वह फल पद्मपुराण की कथा सुनने से सहजमय ही प्राप्त हो जाता है। मोक्ष प्राप्ति के लिये पद्म पुराण सुनना सर्वोत्तम उपाय है।, पदमपुराण कथा करवाने के लिये सर्वप्रथम विद्वान ब्राह्मणों से उत्तम मुहुर्त
